Robert Evans

Robet Evans has developed a unique artisitic effect with his rock painting which he has been producing since 1972.  Using the natural colors, grain and features of rock slabs.  Evans incorporates a scene into the rock in such a way that it is often difficult to tell which part of the landscape has been painted.  As a result, canyons and vistas frequently seen in the southwest are realistically captured.

Mr. Evans began his teaching career in 1964 as an 8th grade English/9th grade speech and drama teacher right here in Deming, NM.  His interest shifted from theatrical productions to art following a workshop he attended in the summer of 1970 in Mongollon, NM, and he spent the last 26 yrs of his teaching career teaching in elementary school.  He often tells people he taught school as a hobby and painted rocks to make a living.  He now resides in Las Cruces to be closer to his family during his retirement.
